PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OMAHA/VALLEY NE 925 PM CDT THU JUN 14 2001 RESULTS OF A DAMAGE SURVEY OF THE JUNE 13TH SEWARD NEBRASKA TORNADO THE SEWARD COUNTY TORNADO WAS SURVEYED BY BRIAN SMITH AND CATHY ZAPOTOCNY FROM THE VALLEY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE. THE TORNADO BEGAN AT APPROXIMATELY 745 PM ONE MILE NORTH OF RUBY NEBRASKA OR 4 MILES SOUTH OF SEWARD. THE TORNADO TRACKED NORTH EAST FOR 8 MILES AND ENDED 1/2 MILE SOUTH OF GARLAND NEBRASKA. THE STRONGEST PART OF THE TORNADO STRUCK 3 MILES EAST OF SEWARD OFF OF US 34. THE TORNADO DESTROYED AN ENTIRE FARMSTEAD...A PROPANE AND ANHYDROUS AMMONIA TANK FARM AND A FARM MACHINE SHED AT THIS LOCATION. SEVERAL VEHICLES WERE TUMBLED AND TOSSED INTO A FIELD ACROSS FROM THE FARM HOUSE. THE TORNADO REACHED ITS MAXIMUM INTENSITY...A MINIMAL F4 AT THIS LOCATION. NORTHEAST HIGHWAY 34 THE TORNADO STRUCK SEVERAL SHEDS AND BARNS. MAXIMUM F-SCALE RATING...MINIMAL
