ARCTIC AIR WILL SLOWLY BUT STEADILY PUSH FURTHER SOUTH ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS TODAY AND TONIGHT. HEAVY CLOUDINESS AND AREAS OF FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL ACCOMPANY THE EVER COLDER AIR MASS AS IT MOVES SOUTH. ACROSS THE TRI-STATE AREA THE FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL CHANGE TO SNOW ACROSS THE REGION THIS MORNING FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST. DURING THE AFTERNOON AN UPPER ATMOSPHERIC DISTURBANCE WILL APPROACH THE REGION FROM COLORADO. IT WILL SLOWLY PASS ACROSS THE AREA FROM LATE AFTERNOON THROUGH THE NIGHT. SNOWFALL WILL INCREASE IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY AS THE SYSTEM ADVANCES INTO THE HIGH PLAINS. IN THE TRI-STATE AREA 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED TO ACCUMULATE BY LATE TONIGHT WEST OF A LINE FROM NEAR SHARON SPRINGS TO OBERLIN. EAST OF THAT LINE 2 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED...WITH A FEW AREAS GETTING AS MUCH AS 5 INCHES IN THAT AREA. MOST OF THE SNOWFALL WILL BE OVER BY DAWN ON FRIDAY. NORTH WINDS DURING THE EVENING ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE TO A BLUSTERY 15 TO 25 MPH CAUSING SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW. SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH LOW TEMPERATURES TONIGHT EXPECTED TO DROP INTO THE LOWER TEENS THESE WINDS WILL PRODUCE WIND CHILLS CLOSE TO 20 DEGREES BELOW ZERO. TRAVELING IS DISCOURAGED ACROSS THE AREA. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL OR GO OUT DRESS WARMLY WITH SEVERAL LAYERS OF CLOTHES AND DRIVE OR WALK WITH EXTREME CAUTION.
