Lincoln, NE Storm Facts:
Lincoln, 8.4 inches of snow in 24 hours.

Most 24-hour December snowfall since 1973.

Total snowfall November 1 through December 15, 2000 of 12.0 inches is actually more than ALL of last winter when only 11.7 inches fell in Lincoln.

-14 F on December 12, tied record low and
was the first record low since 1989 for any
December day.

Late Afternoon, Monday, December 11, 2000
The temperature was only +5 F, but the slope at Holmes Lake  
was busy with kids of all ages sledding.
The westerly winds had blown most of the snow 
on the dam over to the east side.
Note the blowing snow across the top of the dam, winds were peaking at 35 mph with -40 wind chills.
The sun is to the left over the tree with a "sun dog" off to the
right.  It is caused by light refraction in the ice crystals in the atmosphere and is typical of arctic air masses.
